The stylish office building of marketing agency Hannibal immerses visitors in a sense of openness and light. However, while the building’s glass façade lets in plenty of sunlight, this can cause high indoor temperatures and unwanted glare. To solve this problem, Reynaers Aluminium joined forces with Renson, a Belgian specialist in solar shading solutions. Combining their professional expertise, they created Fixscreen Minimal, a unique sunscreen solution that is fully integrated into the aluminium façade.
Natural light is crucial in any building, and the Hannibal office is no exception. The open view to the green surroundings inspires the design team during the day, as the glass façade at the front and rear bathes the office in light. However, on sunny days, large glass surfaces tend to overheat your indoor environment. And what about annoying reflections on your computer monitor? As a result, the challenge for this project was to visually give the front and rear façades the same look and feel, while integrating efficient sunscreen solutions to guarantee optimal working conditions.
Taking solar shading to the next level
While the west-facing front façade did not need any additional solar shading, sunscreens were integrated at the back of the modern office building. Lein Aluminium, a Belgian construction partner familiar with both Reynaers Aluminium and Renson systems, was responsible for the professional fabrication and installation of these solutions.
“The Hannibal project was quite a challenge,” says Jan Lein, joint company leader at Lein Aluminium. “Visually, the front and rear façade are the same, but at the back, you can see the sunscreens are nicely integrated into the façade.” The façade as a whole does not consist of off-the-shelf aluminium systems; instead, a special co-developed solution has been chosen. Jan Lein: “We combined Reynaers Aluminium ConceptWall 50 with the Renson Fixscreen Minimal Curtain Wall 50 – the first time ever in Belgium!”
