Sustainability. From Every Angle: our ambitious vision on the future of building

At Reynaers Aluminium, we believe sustainability cannot be solved by looking at just one number or just one perspective. Because to build sustainably, you need to see the whole picture. In 2025, we present a holistic long-term approach, considering "Sustainability. From every angle". Knowledge sharing, lifecycle thinking and low-carbon innovation are key concepts in our vision for a better future.

Lifecycle thinking

It is critical to consider things from every angle, and not just focus on the initial construction alone. Therefore, sustainability must be seen in the context of the whole lifecycle of a building. A long-term, whole-of-life approach is essential, as true sustainability will take a much broader perspective to include not only construction, but operation, renovation, disassembly, recycling and more.

More than one number

A narrow focus on the carbon footprint of the raw aluminium is misleading and confusing. Yet far too often, the conversation begins and ends here. Chasing the highest recycled content ratio is a zero-sum gain, as demand far exceeds supply. Only 36% of European demand can be met by recycled aluminium, yet 75% of all aluminium ever made is still in use. Clearly, we cannot recycle our way out of this problem.

In search for the most sustainable solution, Reynaers Aluminium believes in “the optimal blend": we take our fair share of recycled aluminium and add primary aluminium produced with clean energy.  Today, already 77% of our aluminium is low carbon thanks to our trustworthy supplier network. That is how we can make the biggest positive impact for every building.

Many dimensions

Low-impact construction materials are only one part of the story; there are many other dimensions to consider. And they all contribute to more futureproof buildings.

Ingrained in our DNA

For over 60 years, Reynaers Aluminium has been at the forefront when it comes to sustainable innovation and collaboration. As a family-owned company, we continuously build on the legacy we leave the next generation, a liveable planet. Guided by ambitious science-based targets (SBTi) and our Reynaers Act corporate program, we take our responsibility to lower our own environmental impact, and that of the entire value chain. In this sense, partnership is key. By asking questions, by collaborating on the answers, by co-creating optimal outcomes, and by developing tailored solutions – we show that ‘together’ really is ‘for better’.

Sustainability is one of the key challenges facing the future of the building sector. At Reynaers Aluminium, we believe sustainability cannot be ‘solved’ by looking at just one perspective. We have to see the whole picture. We work towards sustainable solutions together with our partners worldwide, considering every angle along the way.
