Strategic Buyer

- Supply Chain/ Purchasing
We are looking for an experienced Strategic Buyer to strengthen our central procurement team. In this role, you will take ownership of a strategic spend category with a direct impact on our supply chain and business performance.
Within Reynaers Group, Procurement plays a critical role. As we heavily rely on external suppliers for finished products and semi-finished goods, a large part of our impact — on cost, quality, service and sustainability — sits within Procurement.
Your role and impact
You will manage your own categories (‘standard hardware’ and ‘surface treatment’), representing an annual spend of approximately €65 million. This spend is distributed across a mix of large key suppliers and a wide range of smaller partners.
In this context, negotiation is not just about price. It requires an understanding of complex relationships, historical decisions and technical dependencies. You have a clear ‘Total Cost of Ownership’ mindset.
You will take ownership of your category from day one and help define the approach towards both suppliers and internal stakeholders. Decisions in procurement are rarely made in isolation — you will work closely with teams such as Product Management, R&D, Quality, Customer Service, S&OP, … .
Concretely, this means you will:
-
take full responsibility for your category and actively drive its direction
-
define and maintain a clear, fact-based position towards suppliers
-
create impact in situations where multiple interests need to be balanced
-
align with stakeholders to ensure decisions are supported and implemented
Negotiation & analysis
You work in a fact-based way and do not rely on gut feeling. Within Group Procurement, we use data, indexation and structured models to define our position — and expect you to operate at the same level.
-
you use data, market insights and tools (such as indexation and should costing) to support negotiations
-
you translate analysis into concrete negotiation strategies
-
you challenge suppliers based on facts and confidently defend your position
-
you maximise value across contracts and negotiations
Operating in a complex supplier landscape
You will work in an environment where you cannot always rely on leverage or switch suppliers easily. Due to product specifications, customer expectations and long-standing relationships, choices are often more complex than they may seem.
-
you work with both strategic key suppliers and a wide base of smaller suppliers
-
you switch easily between different types of situations and relationships
-
you know when to push and when to create impact through collaboration
-
you are comfortable operating in a context with dependencies and long-term considerations
Partnerships & long-term impact
Beyond negotiation, you build sustainable relationships with suppliers. You balance sharpness with collaboration and look beyond short-term gains.
-
you build strong partnerships without compromising on results
-
you contribute to the mid-term development of your category
-
you identify improvement opportunities in cost, service, quality and risk
-
you contribute to sustainability initiatives within our supply chain (focus on reducing our Scope 3 emissions)
Who we are looking for
We are not looking for a starter or a development profile, but for someone who can step into this role and create impact quickly.
-
you hold a master’s degree and have at least five years of relevant Procurement experience
-
you have experience with complex negotiations and are comfortable taking a clear position
-
you are analytically strong and confident working with data
-
you are assertive and result-driven, without losing sight of the broader picture
-
you are able to challenge stakeholders while also bringing them along
-
you thrive in an environment with pace, complexity and responsibility
-
you live nearby Duffel and speak fluently Dutch
What we offer
You will join a role with real impact, in an international environment where Procurement directly contributes to business performance and strategic decisions.
What you can expect:
-
a position where you are responsible for a significant spend and can truly make a difference in negotiations and decision-making
-
an environment where procurement is a true business partner, working closely with Product Management, R&D, Quality, Customer Service, S&OP, … .
-
the opportunity to operate in an international context with a broad and challenging supplier base
-
a work environment that strongly relies on data and fact-based decision-making, supported by relevant tools and insights
You will be part of a team where content, collaboration and ownership are key, and where colleagues challenge and support each other.
In addition, we offer:
-
a competitive salary, complemented by an attractive package of benefits
-
a flexible mobility plan aligned with your personal preferences
-
opportunities for further development within an international group
And also in practice:
-
you will work at our Reynaers Campus in Duffel, a modern environment bringing multiple departments together
-
you can enjoy daily meals in our company restaurant
-
you can participate in sports and team events we regularly organise
