Reynaers projects win Benelux Aluminium Awards
The Benelux Aluminium Awards for sustainable renovation projects is a biennial prize awarded to renovated houses or projects, in which aluminium is used in a useful and innovative way. On Wednesday 22th January 2014, the award ceremony of this year's edition took place in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
In the category 'non-residential', two Reynaers projects received an award. The jury made its decision based on the following criteria:
Kenniscentrum-Bibliotheek (Roeselare, BE)
This former monumental bank building was redesignated together with the nearby railway station. In this way, a building with an orginally limited social function, becomes one of the centerpieces in the renewal of Roeselare. It serves as a light-filled circulation space to the surrounding walking routes, shopping centres and the central parking space situated under the building.
A particular emphasis was put on the structure of the aluminium façade, in which the staircases and the various activities that take place inside the building, are transposed to the transparent and colourful aluminium façade. This façade was specially designed to provide the building envelope with a high performance in wind -and water tightness together with a high aesthetic character.
Dreamhouse (Rotterdam, NL)
The renovation of this project was considered by the jury as one of the most successful designs. The use of aluminium as a total solution brings out the extraordinary character of this building.
The aluminium façade -thanks to the use of very deep extruded lamellae with an anodised surface treatment that enforce the natural colour of the aluminium- becomes a diorama with special lighting by day and night.
