Reynaers Aluminium wins 'Factory of the future award' thanks to extensive digitalization
The leading company for aluminium window and door systems has invested more than 100 million euros in the automation and digitalization of its entire chain over recent years.
Reynaers Aluminium today received the 'Factory of the Future Award' from the Belgian technology federation Agoria and SIRRIS, the collective centre of the technology industry of Belgium. With this award Reynaers Aluminium is recognized and rewarded for its transformation process from a typical manufacturer to an agile and high-tech organization. The transformation process, which started in 2012, led to a 32% growth in turnover and a 29% increase in the staff complement of the group. The digitalization process has since resulted in a significant reduction in different throughput times and an increase in productivity.
"When we decided in 2012 to close the digital chain with an ambitious transformation process, we came to the important conclusion that we had realized real breakthroughs by tackling the entire system rather than only focusing on the improvement of the product. Thanks to this chain-wide approach, we significantly improved the throughput time from measuring the aluminium joinery to placement. This gave us an important competitive advantage. " says Michel van Put, CMO of Reynaers Aluminium.
The jury commended Reynaers Aluminium for its strategy to keep the entire production process and core technologies in-house and to digitalize it extensively. This makes Reynaers an a-typical production company that can differentiate itself on the highly competitive national and international markets. The jury was also impressed with the investments Reynaers Aluminium had made in improving the production processes, the acquisition of its state-of-the-art ergonomic machinery and the far-reaching technological and organizational support of its aluminium fabricators.
The most recent achievement in the ambitious digitalization policy was the opening of the Reynaers Campus (Duffel, Belgium) at the end of 2017 with the expansion of its warehouses to 60,000 m² and the realization of the largest European production facility for the insulation of aluminium profiles. The Reynaers Campus also accommodates the most advanced digital technology, including its unique virtual reality room, Avalon; an experience room with numerous digital applications and the largest private test centre for aluminium systems in Europe.
"As a result of the merging of the real world with the digital world at all levels of our process chain, we are strengthening our market position and we succeeded in anchoring Reynaers Aluminium as an international manufacturing company in Belgium. In addition, we create more employment opportunities and ensure the financial well-being of our company“
