Reynaers Aluminium spreads its wings to Portugal Reynaers Aluminium spreads its wings to Portugal

The Portuguese connection

Reynaers Aluminium has announced its acquisition of Alupol SA, a prominent provider of aluminium systems in Portugal. This acquisition offers Reynaers a strategic business springboard to establish a significant market presence in Portugal and the Portuguese-speaking territories.
Alupol’s offices are situated in Pombal, on the coast between Lisbon and Porto, from where they service about 400 customers.

A large blend of innovative solutions

In addition to their own established range of architectural aluminium applications such as doors and windows, Alupol has been the official distributor of the Reynaers Aluminium’s systems in Portugal since 2007. This suitably equips them with the technical expertise to integrate Reynaers’ business and architectural solutions efficiently and rapidly.
Reynaers’ product range is an ideal complement to Alupol’s. Alupol has made the residential market in Portugal its niche, whilst Reynaers will bring its expertise in the project market. Reynaers’ outstanding solutions in insulation, safety and design will significantly enhance the existing Alupol product offerings to the Portuguese market in one bouquet.
Part of the new venture will entail the building of a new logistical and office facility of more than 7000 m² adjacent to the existing site in Pombal in order to meet the expected customer demand for products and services.
Martine Reynaers, CEO of Reynaers Aluminium, explains that the choice of Alupol for their acquisition followed extensive strategic research and analysis of the Portuguese architectural and construction market. “Alupol has a sound and reliable reputation in that market, a good product and service range that compliment ours very well, a strong technical team and the infrastructure to service the local  market adequately. This makes it much easier for us to establish ourselves in this market,” says Reynaers. “Furthermore, this acquisition will help our group to have a solid position in one of the largest European markets for aluminium systems.”

The way forward...

Martine Reynaers has made it clear that the takeover will be handled discreetly; She has confirmed her confidence in the team in Pombal that will continue to function independently, reporting to the CEO of Reynaers Aluminium in Spain.
The investment for the deal was based on Aluport’s current profitability levels. No external financing for the acquisition had to be found and the venture was completed from existing internal financial assets.
